The Coast Guard Festival has something for everyone, whether you enjoy crafts, listening to music or learning about Coast Guard ships.
The week-long festival offers a jam-packed lineup of events. Here are five events you won’t want to miss:
1. Fireworks Extravaganza
Some say the Saturday, Aug. 3, extravaganza is the best firework show in the area. Watch as the Grand Haven sky lights up with vibrant colors when fireworks shoot off Dewey Hill at dusk.
2. Street Dance
Join your friends and family for a night of music and dancing from 8:30-10:30 Tuesday, July 30, on Washington Avenue between Third and Fourth streets.
The Beach Bashers will take to the stage as community members let loose and dance in the street.
3. Ship Tours
Don’t miss the Coast Guard ships as they navigate into town at about 1 p.m. on Monday, July 29. Folks will line the Grand River channel and cheer for the Coast Guardsmen and women.
Throughout the week, U.S. Coast Guard cutters Neah Bay and Hollyhock, and the Canadian Coast Guard ship Griffon will dock at Escanaba Park so visitors can walk aboard to learn about the history and see how crewmembers live and work.
4. Grand City Skiers
Watch as the Grand City Skiers demonstrate their aquatic acrobatic skills on the Grand River at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, at Waterfront Stadium. Performers ages 5 to 65 will showcase their jumping and formation specialties as they dance on skis.
5. Cruise-In Car Show
Check out classic and muscle cars lining Grand Haven’s Washington Avenue on Sunday, July 28, on Washington Avenue between Harbor Drive and Fourth Street. Coast Guard personnel, festival committee members and trophy sponsors will hand out awards during the 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. show.
