It’s easy to get caught up in the fun of the Coast Guard Festival: two parades; Kids Day and Senior Day; a cardboard boat race; fireworks. These are all things that put smiles on our faces. But there’s much more to the annual Coast Guard Festival than elephant ears and a ride on the Zipper. This and every year, the primary focus of the festival is to honor the men and women of the United States Coast Guard. It’s about celebrating the history of the Coast Guard, and bringing year-round awareness to those who serve our country. So enjoy all of the fun events that the Coast Guard Festival offers, but don’t get so wrapped up in the festivities to forget the true reason behind the festival.
